Space Race
Description
This project was very open, and it was to create a timeline for a historical event. I chose to create a timeline on the space race that took place between the United States and the USSR. The project displays the events in a way that is meant to represent a solar system and takes inspiration from orbits. An additional part of this project was a book that also displays the timeline in a different format to complement the main timeline.

The "orbit timeline" was developed as a way to display the information in a way that felt more suited to the subject matter. The plan for the timeline is that it would be displayed on the floor of museums, and it would be an interactive piece of information where people can walk over it and learn about the story about one of the most historic events in human history. The timeline would also be a poster that can encourage more people to learn and become invested in the space race.
An initial version of the timeline in a traditional line format, I had gotten some feedback, which suggests that I went in a different direction to separate the timeline from other timelines already created and create something that links more to the idea of space and the space race. After receiving the feedback, that's how I was able to come up with the orbit timeline.
Collage
I liked the idea of being able to tell the story through not only text but through collage, as I think it's an effective way to show multiple images, so I created a series of collages that displayed the key images from each key event on the timeline. Newspaper articles were also used frequently, as well as highlighting some images in red to stay consistent with the colour scheme used throughout.
Editorial Design
When creating the complimentary piece to the timeline, the idea of a book that would also tell the story of the space race. The book needed to be more simple and take inspiration from other pieces of media that discuss the topic of space. The book uses a black and white colour scheme with highlights of the same red used in the timeline. The book uses a mix of the collage style and also just singular images, which help tell the story.
